How to cancel Spotify
Last reviewed About 2–5 minutes
When you cancel Spotify Premium, your account drops back to the free tier at the end of your current billing period. You keep all your saved playlists, liked songs, and podcasts — you just lose the offline downloads, ad-free listening, and other Premium features.
If your Spotify subscription is billed through an app store, you need to cancel there rather than on the Spotify website.
Steps
Log in to Spotify on the web
Go to spotify.com and log in. The cancellation flow is only available on the website, not in the mobile or desktop apps.
Go to your account page
Click your profile name in the top-right corner and select 'Account' from the menu.
Open the Subscription section
On the Account overview page, click 'Manage your plan' or navigate to the 'Your plan' section.
Click Change or Cancel plan
Select 'Change plan' if you want to switch to a cheaper tier, or scroll to the bottom of the plan page and click 'Cancel Premium'.
Follow the cancellation steps
Spotify walks you through a short cancellation flow. Confirm your choice at the end. You will receive a confirmation email and your Premium access continues until the billing period ends.
Things to know
- If you pay through Apple, cancel in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
- If you pay through Google Play, cancel in the Play Store under Subscriptions.
- Student and Duo/Family plan holders follow the same website steps; the account owner handles cancellation for shared plans.
Frequently asked questions
- What happens to my playlists when I cancel Spotify Premium?
- Your playlists, liked songs, and followed podcasts remain in your account. Offline downloads become unavailable, but you can re-download them if you resubscribe.
- Can I switch to a cheaper Spotify plan instead of canceling?
- Yes. From the plan management page you can switch to Spotify's Mini or other available tiers depending on your region. Look for 'Change plan' before choosing to cancel outright.
- Does canceling Spotify close my account?
- No. Canceling Premium only downgrades your subscription to the free tier. Your account and all saved content stay intact.
