How to cancel Netflix
Last reviewed About 2–5 minutes
Canceling Netflix is straightforward — you can do it from the Netflix website on any browser. Your membership stays active through the end of the period you already paid for, so you keep access to all content until then.
If you signed up through an app store (Apple or Google Play) rather than directly through Netflix, you will need to cancel through that app store instead of Netflix's website.
Steps
Sign in to Netflix
Go to netflix.com and sign in with your account email and password.
Open Account settings
Click your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select 'Account' from the dropdown.
Find the Membership section
On the Account page, locate the 'Membership & Billing' section near the top.
Click Cancel Membership
Click the 'Cancel Membership' button. Netflix may show you a downgrade offer or a pause option — you can decline these.
Confirm cancellation
Click 'Finish Cancellation' to confirm. You will receive a confirmation email. Your access continues until your current billing period ends.
Things to know
- If you subscribed through Apple, cancel via Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad.
- If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel via the Play Store app under Subscriptions.
- Netflix does not offer partial-month refunds when you cancel mid-cycle.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I get a refund when I cancel Netflix?
- Netflix does not issue refunds for time remaining in your current billing period. Your membership stays active until the period you paid for ends, then it stops automatically.
- Will I lose my viewing history and watchlist if I cancel?
- Netflix retains your profile data for 10 months after cancellation. If you rejoin within that window, your watch history, watchlist, and preferences are restored.
- Can I pause Netflix instead of canceling?
- Netflix offers a membership pause on some plans, which suspends billing for one to three months. You can find this option on the same Account page — it will appear as an alternative when you begin the cancellation flow.
