How to cancel Dropbox
Last reviewed About 2–5 minutes
Dropbox subscriptions are managed through your Dropbox account on the Dropbox website. After canceling a paid plan, your account reverts to the free Dropbox tier at the end of the billing period. The free tier includes less storage (currently 2 GB), so if you are storing more than that, some files may become inaccessible if you do not move or delete them before the transition.
Canceling does not delete your files or account — you can continue to access Dropbox with the free storage allocation.
Steps
Sign in to Dropbox
Go to dropbox.com and sign in with your account credentials.
Go to Account settings
Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select 'Settings' or navigate to dropbox.com/account/plan.
Open the Plan tab
Navigate to the 'Plan' section within your account settings.
Cancel your plan
Find the option to cancel or downgrade your plan and click it. Follow any prompts Dropbox presents.
Confirm cancellation
Confirm your choice. Your paid plan stays active through the end of the current billing period, then downgrades to free.
Things to know
- The Dropbox free tier provides 2 GB of storage. If your current usage exceeds this, you will need to move files out or delete them before the free tier kicks in to avoid access issues.
- Dropbox Business and Team plans are managed by an admin — individual members cannot cancel the team plan.
- If you subscribed through Apple, cancel via Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
Frequently asked questions
- Will Dropbox delete my files when I cancel?
- Dropbox does not immediately delete files when you downgrade. However, if your stored data exceeds the free tier limit, files above the limit may eventually become inaccessible. Download or remove excess files before the paid period ends.
- Can I get a refund when I cancel Dropbox?
- Refund policies vary by plan type and billing situation. Check your account confirmation or Dropbox's help center for details.
- Does canceling Dropbox close my account?
- No. Canceling a paid plan downgrades you to the free tier. Your account and files (up to the free storage limit) remain accessible.
