How to cancel Audible
Last reviewed About 2–5 minutes
Audible memberships are managed through the Amazon account they were created with. Before canceling, check your credit balance — unused credits are forfeited when you cancel and cannot be reinstated later. If you have credits, use them to purchase audiobooks first.
Audible sometimes offers a membership pause or a downgrade to a cheaper tier as alternatives to full cancellation — these options appear during the cancellation flow.
Steps
Use any remaining credits
Sign in to audible.com and check your credit balance. If you have unused credits, browse and purchase titles before proceeding — credits are forfeited on cancellation.
Go to Account Details
Click your name in the top-right corner of audible.com and select 'Account Details'.
Open the Cancel Membership page
On the Account Details page, scroll to the 'Membership Details' section and click 'Cancel Membership'.
Review retention offers
Audible may offer a pause, a downgrade to a lighter plan, or a credit to stay. If you want to proceed, decline these and continue.
Confirm cancellation
Select 'Cancel Membership' on the final confirmation screen. You will receive a confirmation email. Your membership stays active through the end of your current billing period.
Things to know
- Audible is an Amazon service — your Amazon login is your Audible login. If your Audible charges appear on your Amazon billing page, that is expected.
- Unused Audible credits are forfeited at cancellation and cannot be refunded or transferred. Spend them before you cancel.
- Audiobooks you purchased outright (separate from credits) remain in your Audible library permanently, even after cancellation.
- If you signed up through Apple's App Store, you must cancel your Audible subscription through Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on iOS.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I lose my audiobooks when I cancel Audible?
- No. Audiobooks you purchased — either with credits or directly — stay in your Audible library and remain accessible through the Audible app even after you cancel. Credits, however, are forfeited.
- What happens to my Audible credits when I cancel?
- Any unused credits are permanently forfeited when you cancel. They cannot be refunded or carried over. Use all remaining credits to buy titles before completing your cancellation.
- Can I pause my Audible membership instead of canceling?
- Yes. Audible offers a pause option (typically one to three months) that suspends billing without losing your membership status. This option appears in the cancellation flow. Credits are preserved during a pause.
